Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden is calling for equal pay and conditions for vulnerable temporary agency workers.
Mr Marsden - a long-standing campaigner in Parliament on this issue – previously worked with the TUC to highlight that agency workers receive less pay and are engaged on worse
terms and conditions than permanent workers.
Mr Marsden said “Temporary staff are used to cope with fluctuations in demand. This particularly affects resort towns such as Blackpool where increasing numbers of
seasonal workers are recruited through agencies. It is vital that we recognise the work and contribution that temporary agency workers make to the economy. The best way to do this is to
establish fair and equal working conditions.”
“There are over 1.4 million agency workers in the UK, but permanent staff are also affected as agency workers are sometimes employed to undercut the permanent workforce.
Recognising equal pay and conditions will benefit both temporary and permanent workers in Blackpool.”
