Gordon Marsden MP for Blackpool South today criticised Royal Mail for withdrawing all Sunday and Bank Holiday collections without proper
consultation.
Mr Marsden commented “Royal Mail has decided to end its Sunday and Bank holiday post collections and has let Blackpool residents know by placing a small
sticker on our post boxes. This is not acceptable and I’m calling on Royal Mail to re-think their decision.”
Royal Mail said the decision was taken on the basis of a survey of 1000 people. Mr Marsden said, “This survey was certainly not done in Blackpool as I know
a lot of people here use the Sunday collections.”
Mr Marsden criticised the role of the consumer body Postwatch saying, “Postwatch are supposed to protect the rights of
consumers in Blackpool and elsewhere. Once again they have simply rubber stamped this cost-cutting decision by Royal Mail without thinking about the impact it will have on residents in Blackpool.
Postwatch are clearly not doing their job properly.”
