Gordon Marsden stepped up his campaign to secure safe and secure disabled access to the new Post Office site in WH Smith on Bank Hey Street today when he
held a special Parlaimentary debate at Westminster on the issue.
Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden challenged the Post Office and WHSmith on the proposed closure of Abingdon Street Crown Office and the effect this will
have on access for disabled and elderly customers.
During the debate in Parliament, MPs listened as Gordon challenged the Post Office to meet its obligations under the disability laws to take account
of the needs of customers with mobility problems and those in wheelchairs.
Mr Marsden commented “In Blackpool we have a higher than average number of disabled and older people, they rely on the Post Office for
essential serices. Everyone has a right to access the Post Office easily and the proposed new site in the basement of WHSmith's does not meet
this standard.
"This closure will especially affect those with disabilities. I will continue to do all that I can to protect post office users in Blackpool.”
