Gordon Marsden, MP for Blackpool South today joined forces with the Alzheimer’s Society to launch a major campaign to provide more support for staff in care homes.
The partnership was forged as the Alzheimer’s Society released a report revealing huge differences in the quality of care between homes across the country. The new report ‘Home
from Home’, found that staff urgently need better support and training, especially in dealing with dementia sufferers. Both Mr Marsden and the Alzheimer’s Society are calling for specific
training for staff to be made mandatory as two thirds of people in care homes have dementia.
Mr Marsden commented, "We need to work as a community to stop poor dementia care. That is why I am joining forces with the Alzheimer’s Society to put care right in care homes in
our community. I want to see all staff in Blackpool care homes get adequate and professional training in dementia care and more support and recognition for the difficult job they do. I’ll also be
working with the Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of good quality dementia care and how it can be achieved."
Mary Oxby, Blackpool & Wyre Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society said, "We are delighted to have the support of Gordon Marsden (MP). The time to change is now and by
working as a community we can put care right."
