Gordon Marsden, MP for Blackpool South has warmly welcomed new money to help key workers such as firefighters, NHS nurses and the armed
forces to buy their own homes.
Following an announcement from Housing Minister Yvette Cooper that the Government will extend its Affordable Homes initiative for Key
Workers to cover Blackpool Mr Marsden commented: “This announcement from the Government comes on top of £800m of investment in the North West for affordable housing in recent years. We all know
economic growth has pushed up house prices, and low-income families in Blackpool have been affected by this.”
“The Government’s new campaign will make it easier, clearer and more affordable for key workers to own their homes in Blackpool and will
raise awareness of the new shared ownership schemes to those essential local workers.”
The Housing Minister added that new criteria for Blackpool will give key workers an automatic right to apply for financial support from
the Government to help them own their homes. Mr Marsden said: “I am pleased that the automatic right for key workers to apply for this pot of Government money has been extended from London and the
South East to include Blackpool – this will make home ownership more affordable in our town for essential workers such as nursery nurses, firemen, NHS staff and police officers.”
