Patrick with his wife Joan
Gordon Marsden, MP for Blackpool South has led a tribute to charity worker Patrick Lawrence who helped hundreds of disadvantaged families enjoy breaks at the seaside.
Patrick Laurance, 88, who was co-founder of the Family Holiday Association (FHA), died on Friday January 11.
Mr Marsden is a long-time supporter of the charity and has commented on their work in Parliament over the last year, recommending that it be recognised by the Government and local authorities
across the UK.
Gordon tabled a Commons motion, backed by Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Joan Humble as well as MPs from other parties which says: "This house acknowledges with gratitude the life and work of
Patrick Laurance, co-founder with his wife Joan, of the FHA.
From humble beginnings in 1975, FHA has grown to provide today over 1,600 disadvantaged families with short breaks to seaside towns in Britain every year."
The Laurances established the charity in 1975 to give stressed families a therapeutic break. In more than three decades it has helped more than 100,000 children and parents enjoy time away
together, often at the seaside in Britain.
Haven Holidays has donated 88 holidays in Patrick's memory; one for every year of his life.
